Cursor Installation

Add the following configuration to your Cursor mcp.json file.

Prerequisites

We recommend using supergateway instead of mcp-remote, which has a known bug causing SSE connection failures in Claude Desktop.

Ensure you have Node.js ≥ 20.18.1 installed
Install supergateway globally: npm install -g supergateway
Find the absolute path: which supergateway
In Claude Desktop settings, disable "Use Built-in Node.js for MCP"

Why absolute paths?

Claude Desktop does not source your shell profile (.zshrc, .bashrc), so tools like npx and version managers (nvm, fnm) may resolve to the wrong Node.js version. Using absolute paths ensures the correct binary is always used.

Windsurf (Codeium) Installation

Add the following configuration to your Windsurf mcp_config.json file.

Claude CLI (Claude Code) Installation

The fastest way to add mcp-memory to Claude Code. Run this single command in your terminal:

Run this command:

claude mcp add --transport sse mcp-memory YOUR_MCP_URL_HERE

This registers the MCP server globally for Claude Code. Use --scope project to add it to the current project only.

OpenAI Codex CLI Installation

Codex CLI doesn't natively support SSE transport, so you need supergateway to bridge SSE to stdio.

Prerequisites

Ensure you have Node.js ≥ 20.18.1 installed
Install supergateway globally: npm install -g supergateway

Config file location:

~/.codex/config.json
